Microsoft FINALLY Ending Support for Windows Vista

I know this may come as a surprise to many of you but there are still a little over 11 million PC’s still running Vista.

The following notice appeared on data security site and I thought I would share with all of my readers.

Microsoft Ending Support for Windows Vista

Original release date: March 17, 2017

All software products have a lifecycle. After April 11, 2017, Microsoft is ending support for the Windows Vista operating system. After this date, this product will no longer receive:

• Security updates,
• Non-security hotfixes,
• Free or paid assisted support options, or
• Online technical content updates from Microsoft.

Computers running the Windows Vista operating system will continue to work even after support ends. However, using unsupported software may increase the risks of viruses and other security threats.

Users and administrators are encouraged to upgrade to a currently supported operating system. For more information, see Microsoft’s Vista support and product lifecycle articles.

I am posting this from e-mail so I do not know if the link above will work, but hopefully it will. This link will take you to an article explaining what 5G wireless is and is not, in layman’s terms. The author does a good job of "splaining," in non-tech terms.

The bottom-line is this….don’t believe the wireless carrier’s claims of 5G service this year. It cannot happen yet…no matter what they advertise.

Read the article for more details. I am kind of excited now that I’ve learned more about the changes coming with 5G…it’s much more than simply faster speeds.

Glow In The Dark, Beer Proof, Keyboard

I don’t know how often I am typing on my standard keyboard in very low light conditions and cannot really see the keys. This isn’t a huge problem since I am mostly a touch-typist. But, I do not have all the special character keys mastered, nor do I have all the numeral keys mastered. So, I have to focus on my keyboard and wait for my eyes to adjust from looking at the monitor to looking down into the dark area of the keyboard. This little puppy would help a great deal and it even rolls up for quick packing in my briefcase and it is WATERPROOF!

Important Product Safety Recalls issued last week

As part of my CERT experience I subscribe to “The Emergency Email & Wireless Network.” They send out weekly safety bulletins and this morning’s had a number of food product recalls. Some of you reading this may have some of these products. If you are interested in details click on the links they have provided.

Recalls have been issued as follows:

RECALL: Chicken Products Possible Foreign Matter Contamination

RECALL: Frozen Ready-To-Eat Beef Products Products may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically rubber with plastic

RECALL: Yogurt Bars Bars may be contaminated with Escherichia coli O157:H7 bacteria (E. Coli O157:H7).

RECALL: Assorted Jerky Products Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

RECALL: Fish Products These products may be adulterated with residues of public health concern, specifically Malachite Green and Leucomalachite Green

RECALL: Boneless Beef Products Products may be contaminated with E. coli O103
